Pragmatic Leadership™ Program for Fire and Emergency Services

Pragmatic Leadership™ Program for Fire and Emergency Services.

In a formal leadership role (Captain or higher) for a minimum of one year.

Leadership is leadership; it is the context that changes. Are you ready to lead others through constant change? Pragmatic Leadership™ equips today’s leaders with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to adapt to the changing needs of your environment, your people, and your profession.

This program introduces research and theory behind the leadership principles and then challenges the participant to engage in critical thinking, active skills development, and immediate application of learning. Participants should expect to be fully engaged through 16 weeks of structured learning: self-study, online interaction with peers, professional coaching sessions, and two 3-day in-class segments. Following the structured learning portion, participants pursue a Leadership Development Initiative—a purposeful, planned, and observable application of their leadership development—lasting 3-6 months.

Pragmatic Leadership™ was developed based on the experience, philosophy, and principles of an organizational leadership coach and a senior military officer. FESTI is pleased to introduce Pragmatic Leadership™ and bring this innovative leadership development opportunity to the fire and emergency services sector.

This program includes the following:
•Development in the eight (8) domains of Pragmatic Leadership™

  1. Intrapersonal
  2. Learning
  3. Interpersonal
  4. Communication
  5. Sense making
  6. Visioning
  7. Execution
  8. Change

•Personalized Leadership Circle® profile
•Three 1:1 coaching sessions with certified professional coach
•Supervision of Leadership Development Initiative

This Pragmatic Leadership™ is intended to offer Fire Officers a holistic approach to leadership that honors the necessary structure of incident command and the tenets of fire service management. The eight domains of Pragmatic Leadership™ complement the management skills taught in fire officer training with the leadership presence to direct, motivate, and enable others to achieve a common goal or purpose.
