PHPA Online NFPA 1001 FireFighting Program

If your “organization” is interested in a similar program please contact www.festi.ca.

Presented by, the Fire and Emergency Services Training Institute, Canada's Premiere Fire Training College.

FESTI is a recognized Private College under the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities and is listed under Greater Toronto Airports Authority College (PCC- 113530).
FESTI’s online NFPA 1001 Firefighter Training Database is one of a kind and offers a new and exciting approach to fire training in Canada, and is recognized by the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities, the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) and the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs (OAFC).

Our online program allows PHPA members to register and begin training anytime between December 1, 2017 and February 15, 2018.

Our online platform has been developed utilizing a blended learning strategy that incorporates a variety of learning tools and aids to assist students in successfully completing the theoretical portion of the program. Throughout this component, learning comprehension is evaluated by completing activities, and assignments which are submitted to program instructors for grading and feedback or are automatically graded with feedback. These required elements ensure that the student understands the learning objectives of each module and is further validated by the use of end of module evaluations. Once all of the individual elements have been successfully completed the learner can proceed to the next program module.

Upon successful completion of all the theoretical program elements, students qualify to attend FESTI to complete the mandatory, 4 week, intensive practical training and testing program. The practical phase FESTI’s program challenges the individual to demonstrate the knowledge they acquired during the first phase. Through hands on practice and live demonstration by one of our qualified Instructor’s the students will learn all of the skills necessary to challenge the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office (OFM) Provincial written and skill examination. FESTI optimizes the learning environment by maintaining a five -to-one student instructor ratio during all practical evolutions, and restricts the number of students to a maximum of twenty per session.
This high level of individual attention creates an excellent developmental environment for the motivated recruit level firefighter to successfully complete all of the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office (OFM) Provincial Exam requirements and earn not only IFSAC, NFPA 1001 Level I & II and NFPA 472 Operations level certification, but the Institution of Fire Engineers Accreditations as well.

Students completing this program will select from one of two available practical sign-off portions of their course, Students should schedule 4 months to complete their theory portion of the program and then be available to attend FESTI for the 4 weeks of practical skills development and assessment.

Students are required to purchase a copy of the IFSTA Essentials of Fire Fighting 6th edition, with Fire Department Operations, which is the required manual for this program. This textbook will be utilized throughout the program including the practical phase of training, and can be purchased through IFSTA’s website at http://info.ifsta.org/essentials-6th, or at Chapters Indigo.  The cost for the text is the only cost that the student is required to pay above the advertised course fee. All of the personal protective equipment needed during the practical portion of the program is supplied at no additional cost.

The Staff instructing the FESTI programs are NFPA certified Fire Service Instructors, OFM Trainer Facilitators and/or active Fire Officers who bring their wealth of experience and expertise to field training exercises. The program combines current and comprehensive theoretical firefighting knowledge with considerable practical skills development, in a variety of areas such as fire behavior, fire ground operations, environmental protection, rescue operations, education and fire prevention in the community and emergency patient care , just to name a few.
